Camping on Highway 88
Dispersed camping and USFS campgrounds are prevalent along the corridor between Kirkwood and Woodfords. Some popular USFS campgrounds include Woods Lake, Crystal Springs, and Kit Carson.
Here's a great resource for camping ideas on Highway 88. The area is within both the Humboldt-Toiyabe and El Dorado National Forests.
Camping on Highway 89
Dry camping along Hwy 89 near the park area is allowed. Space is limited to first-come, first-serve.
This year there will be no camping within the Turtle Rock Park boundaries due to tree falling and cleanup efforts.
For campgrounds near Markleeville consider Kit Carson, Markleeville Creek, Silver Creek, and Centerville Flats.
Campaign on Highway 4
Centerville Flats and Silver Creek Campgrounds are located along the early sections of Hwy 4 before you climb Ebbetts Pass. In addition, the Stanislaus National Forest Calaveras Ranger District lists multiple campground locations on the west side of the route, but that would require arriving to the starting line before the roads close at 5am.
Grover Hot Springs
Grover Hot Springs State Park, just 4 miles west of Markleeville, is a great camping opportunity close to the town of Markleeville. Reservations for sites at Grover's typically open six months in advance of the day of your stay. Visit Grover Hot Springs SP (ca.gov) for reservation details.
